CHC Highways is a joint venture between Costain and CH2M where they have been entrusted with providing routine and cyclical maintenance work, incident and severe weather response and will be responsible for the maintenace of the depot facilities for Area 14.  The depot facilities are at - Bradbury, Kneeton, Carrville and Alnwick.

What will I be doing?

Contract Type:  Weekly Paid

 

To carry out all aspects of Highway Maintenance and to assist members of the public and CHC personnel when required.

 

  • Driving a range of vehicles as part of maintenance duties, often for long periods of
  • To conduct various maintenance works on extremely busy motorway and trunk
  • To communicate with and assist members of the public and colleagues when
  • To carry out a wide range of works such as minor surfacing and post and sign
  • Small drainage repairs, safety fence repairs, kerb and flag
  • Grass cutting, gully dipping and routine tidying of
  • Be prepared to carry out a small element of traffic
  • To observe and promote all aspects of health and
  • To carry out the watchman role function by communicating back any issues that may arise on the network.
  • Any other tasks commensurate with the role.

 

Additional duties that may be required as part of the role:

  • Assist with Winter Maintenance gritting, as required during the Winter Maintenance
  • To assist with MRT duties as and when
  • To install and maintain Traffic Management

About you

Academic qualifications/level of education.

  •   Educated to GCSE level (Maths & English grade C or above desirable)

Specific Skills (e.g. IT, technical, HGV licence)

  •  Class 2 HGV Licence
  •  CSCS
  •  Winter Maintenance
  •  First Aid at Work

Knowledge (e.g. of particular IT package, industry standards, commercial awareness) 

  •   NRSWA

Competencies/Attributes (e.g. relevant qualities or characteristics such as leadership, relationship building, calm under pressure) 

  • Team player
  •  Working night time and weekends and unsociable hours when on call for incidents
  •  Good communication skills for interface with members of the public and other stakeholders

Experience (e.g. highways, joint ventures, handling customer complaints, team development)

  • High speed road network
  •  Experience of Highways maintenance activities e.g. grass cutting/ gritting
