About Costain and your project.

As Senior Systems Engineer, you will have technical responsibility for the assigned aspects of the definition, design, build, test, commissioning and hand-over of complex infrastructure projects. You'll have previous Systems Engineering experience working in large / complex projects.


Costain helps to improve people’s lives by deploying technology-based engineering solutions to meet urgent national needs across the UK’s energy, water and transportation infrastructures.


Costain have been contracted to for the design and build of a facility near Reading as well as contracted for the provision of consultancy services The scope of works for this project will include Programme Management, Construction, Building Services (M&E), Instrumentation and Control Systems and various external works.


Potential candidates for this role must be able to obtain and retain Security Clearance to be able to be considered.

What will I be doing?

You will:

  • Be responsible to the Principal systems engineer from the project for the consultancy work and a Costain Contract lead for internal arrangements
  • Have technical responsibility for assigned aspects of the definition, design, build, test, commissioning and hand-over of complex infrastructure projects involving the following engineering disciplines: civils, mechanical, electrical, chemical, process, software, human factors, safety and security
  • Appreciates the Systems Engineering v-model and associated engineering principles
  • Accepts assigned roles and tasks, working under limited supervision and direction
  • Regularly exercises technical decision-making authority

About you

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Systems Engineering experience working in large, complex projects
  • Ability to interpret technical contract requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interface with customers, subcontractors and vendors at all levels in engineering and other departments
  • Ability to solve complex and difficult systems engineering problems
  • Ability to apply System Thinking principles and tools in every tasks
  • Ability to solve complex and difficult system design and engineering problems
  • Demonstrated experience in conceptualizing, designing and product development
  • Knowledge of Configuration Management processes and best working practices

Due to the nature of the project, the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance of at least SC level is mandatory from the outset. In order to pass the clearance you must have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years. DV will be required soonest after commencement.
