Following completion of a successful Front End Engineering Design [FEED] project, Costain was awarded a contract by National Grid to upgrade its Peterborough and Huntingdon compressor stations. The primary driver for the programme is to reduce emissions associated with moving gas around the UK to support EU legislation; added benefits include increased system resilience and reduced overall risk on the National Transmission System by replacing aging assets with modern, efficient equipment.
As both compressors are adjacent on the National Transmission Service, they cannot be taken out of service at the same time. The Costain team has devised a complex delivery programme to minimise any impact on the NTS and avoid outages during the winter months. This will ensure National Grid’s customers are provided with a seamless service during the project and will benefit from a much enhanced supply when it is completed.
The site-based role is to work under the management of an Area Construction Manager to deliver major building services and principle contractor duties providing major upgrade infrastructure within an existing site
The project is within a highly regulated industry and has a programme duration of over 18 months to completion (including commissioning)
An ideal opportunity for a staff member who has an aspiration to become a Project Manager in the near future. Although the project is predominately services related the role requires major civils works to enable the services to be installed and the role is suitable to all staff with a background of delivering complex engineering construction projects.
