    East Sussex Highways is a joint venture between Costain and CH2M which will bring together several aspects of highways maintenance, such as roads, pavements, drainage, street lights, traffic lights and structures that are currently run by outside contractors and the county council.

    What will I be doing?

    The area of responsibility for this role is end to end management of the capital works programme and therefore requires thorough knowledge of Highways Construction practice, and familiarity with the NEC suite of contracts. The ideal candidate must also be an excellent leader who can discover the most efficient ways to manage and motivate the team.

    As part of the Leadership team you will aim to promote safety, maximise margin and to augment the efficiency of the project’s operations to provide value for money for the local authority client.

    • Work alongside Leadership team colleagues to make decisions that benefit the business as a whole.
    • Work with team leads to plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure efficiency of works delivery
    • Ensure that all projects adhere to the East Sussex Highways Project Management Office processes and systems
    • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements where appropriate.
    • Work with the East Sussex County Council client to ensure that their objectives of customer satisfaction are met.
    • Review financial information and take steps to maximise recovery of all costs and agreed profit for all works undertaken.
    • Provide detailed explanation of any overspends against budget
    • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation
    • Manage relationships/agreements with both internal and external customers.
    • Evaluate overall performance to ensure compliance with the projects SPIs.
    • Ensure that the projects complies with H&S and legislative regulations

    About you

    • Proven experience as Director or Senior Operations Manager or equivalent position
    • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
    • Outstanding communication and people skills
    • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
    • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service etc.)
    • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
    • Familiarity with MS Office and with NEC3 contract.
    • All academic qualifications will be considered but a minimum BSc/BA in engineering or relevant field, is preferred.
