Process Engineer 1

Our Process Engineering team is seeking to recruit a Process Engineer with knowledge and experience in the design of Oil & Gas Facilities.  The Process Engineer role will normally be a reasonably experienced engineer and may have specific specialisms within their discipline. The role reports to the Process Discipline Manager or their delegate.

The role is based in the Costain Manchester Office and may require travel to company, supplier or client offices or sites for business purposes.

The role duties include:

• To carry out design work on projects, studies and proposals according to contract requirements, following company and client standards and procedures.
• To perform own design work and check work by others in accordance with company procedures.
• To support the lead process engineer in discussions and meetings with client, vendors and third parties.
• To work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary project delivery team, through proactive liaison with other disciplines and ensure integration of Process Engineering design requirements into the overall engineering design.
• To offer advice and support to colleagues and subordinates on development needs taking into account work activities, learning ability and circumstances.
• To ensure personal compliance with current company policy, relevant legislation and company and client’s requirements for Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental matters and work in such a manner not to cause personal harm or injury to fellow workers, client and subcontractor employees or the environment.

Specific Competencies Required include:

• Knowledge and experience in the process design of onshore Oil & Gas Facilities during FEED and/or detailed design project phases including:
  • the UK Regulatory environment
  • relevant industry codes, standards and guidelines for the Energy sector
  • Process Simulation (Aspen HYSYS preferred)
  • Development of Heat and Material Balances, Process Flow Diagrams and P&ID’s
  • Sizing and specification of Process requirements for Major Process Equipment; Utility Equipment; Equipment Packages
  • Line sizing and hydraulic calculations
  • Hazard Study including HAZID and HAZOP
  • Basic knowledge and experience of Functional Safety Management including SIL Classification using LOPA methodology
  • Relief and Blowdown calculations
• Proactive, self-motivated and solutions biased
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Effective communicator
• Strong technical writing skills
• Excellent business and engineering IT skills

Qualifications & Experience

• First degree in Chemical Engineering
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status
• The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a process design role in an engineering consultancy or contracting environment
• Basic knowledge and experience of the process design for the onshore oil and gas sector is required for the role.  Experience of other relevant sectors is beneficial but not essential
