    National Grid’s gas compression facilities are required to comply with the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) directive, which is incorporated into the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). As a consequence National Grid’s Peterborough and Huntingdon compression sites have been identified as requiring upgrade to meet tighter emissions control limits set by the Environment Agency, and as per the IED directive.

     

    The upgrade delivery scope includes the installation and tie-in of two new gas turbine driven compressors, and the design, build, test and commissioning of new pipework headers, and the Balance of Plant, control systems and infrastructure necessary to enable the station satisfy the requirements of the IED.

    What will I be doing?

    • Work closely with project management and Aviator Way engineering teams.
    • Ensure all notifications/documents are managed in accordance with the contract and company policy.
    • Close liaison with the site team, subcontractors and Clients’ representatives
    • Provide contractual advice to the site team as and when appropriate.
    • Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
    • Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of Contract Leader / Project Manager.
    • Maintain the efficient and effective management and issue of accurate, timely and contract compliant documentation.
    • Build on commercial and technical knowledge and work closely with technical staff to develop appropriate techniques and solutions for the project.
    • Produce monthly subcontractor cost reports, forecasts, and contract budget reports.
    • Maintain effective, accurate cost control.
    • Ensure contractual and commercial risks and opportunities for realising efficiencies are identified to the Project and Commercial Managers.
    • Effective and consistent implementation of the COSTAIN Commercial Policy and procedures.
    • Identify and provide appropriate, timely information to support change control process.
    • Manage subcontracts from initial placement of order to final account including close liaison with procurement, planning and delivery teams to ensure that the order meets project requirements.
    • Prepare, review and complete sub-contractor documentation.
    • Prepare and agree interim subcontractor applications for payment (including input onto E1).
    • Prepare and agree final accounts with subcontractor.
    • Maintain registers of variations, delay, extension of time, early warnings and claims.
    • Undertake record-keeping including but not limited to collating site records, meeting invites and taking meeting minutes

    About you

    • Previous experience in a similar role
    • Demonstrable NEC contractual knowledge.
    • Demonstrable civil engineering and process engineering technical knowledge.
    • Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen with excellent organisational and communication skills
    • Practical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of working
    • A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving
    • Experience of setting up and/or operating office management systems including filing systems and document control and distribution
    • Experience of technical minute taking at contractual meetings and able to demonstrate the ability to collate information and prepare reports
    • Experience of drafting contractual correspondence on behalf of the Project Manager based on NEC forms of contract.
    • Experience in preparation of subcontractor payment certificates and interim financial reports.
    • Experience of contributing to procurement and contract strategies.
    • Negotiating and team-working skills and the ability to motivate.
    • Strong analytical skills.
    • Preferably holds an RICS/CICES accredited degree.
    • Full Membership of the RICS or CICES desirable, or enrolled on the approved training scheme for membership
