    Salary: £28,000 starting salary, private medical cover, pension, 25 days paid annual leave/year, salary reviewed every 6 months.

    The Costain Graduate Development Scheme is an intensive 2-year programme designed to equip high flying graduates with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the company. Graduates will work on a number of projects around the UK during the 2-year programme, in sectors including power, nuclear, highways, rail and water.

    What will I be doing?

    Whilst the specific placement will vary depending on Client demand, the PM Graduate will normally operate in either junior Project management, Project Control or business development roles, under the supervision of more experienced Costain P3M consultants, and is likely to be working in planning, scheduling, cost control and forecasting.


    The Project Management Graduate will normally work in a project environment, supporting the Project Management team. This will include assisting in the project management of projects, including bids and business development tasks, ensuring they achieve the successful delivery of the solution, to time, and on budget.

    • Develop project schedules and monitor against the schedule goals for a small project or several work packages
    • Develop and monitor cost and schedule baseline (budgets, management reserve, undistributed budget, network schedules, and scope changes) for projects
    • Conduct effective Risk and Opportunity Management, ensuring that risks are recorded, managed and tracked to closure.
    • Analyse available performance metrics to validate reported Programme and Project progress
    • Develop Programme and Project reports, as required for Project stakeholders
    • Establish and maintain Client satisfaction by developing and maintaining relationships with relevant Client stakeholders
    • Co-ordinating the activities of the team by establishing the appropriate communication mechanisms, including meeting and reporting requirements
    • Supporting and leading bids and other business development activities
    • Co-ordinate all parties involved in the bid process to ensure everyone is aware of the level of contribution expected of them and knows when their deadlines are.
    • Research, evidence gathering and collation, presenting technical information in easy-to-understand ways designing, writing, editing and checking bid documents ensure all timelines are met and that the bid submitted is as complete and accurate as possible

    About you

    • Experience of working in a project environment, and in teams
    • Ability to obtain SC security clearance is desirable
    • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
    • Good analytical and problem solving skills
    • Pro-active and results driven, with a ‘can-do’ attitude
    • Familiarity with the fundamentals of project control and Project management would be an advantage; namely work scope, scheduling, resourcing, budgeting, progress assessment, analysis, reporting and change
    • Experience with Project Control software tools such as MS-Project would be an advantage
