    Salary: £28,000 starting salary, private medical cover, pension, 25 days paid annual leave/year, salary reviewed every 6 months.


    The Costain Graduate Development Scheme is an intensive 2-year programme designed to equip high flying graduates with the skills and experience required to take them forward in their career with the company. We expect graduates to rotate after 12 months to another sector of the business. Graduates will work on a number of projects around the UK during the 2-year programme, in sectors including Nuclear, Highways, Rail, Water, Oil & Gas and Power.

    What will I be doing?

    The role of Graduate Risk Consultant is to help clients in managing risk to their projects & programmes through early identification, thorough assessment and prompt intervention to mitigate threats and exploitation of opportunities. It will also involve supporting clients and the Costain business in sharing and building on best risk management practice across the sectors, and helping clients derive the best value from risk management efforts. The role may also involve support to winning new business including developing proposals, marketing and client engagement.

    • Prepare for and facilitate risk identification workshops with client teams
    • Develop definitions and quantitative assessments for risk events and uncertainties working with client team risk owners
    • Developing risk management processes, procedures and draft supporting documentation which satisfy the specific needs of the client project
    • Preparing reports which summarise the current risk picture for the project / programme
    • Carrying out quantitative risk analysis including developing models to simulate project outturn, collating uncertainty estimates and producing and briefing analysis reports
    • Gathering evidence to support independent estimates for activity duration and cost
    • Carrying out assessment of current risk practice in client teams using a risk maturity assessment and assisting in the identification of next steps and implementation planning
    • Carry out risk reviews with project teams to manage progress in risk management activity
    • Identification of opportunities for further work / diversification, and support to the business in securing additional work
    • Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of Contract Leader / Project Manager

    About you

    • Holds an Engineering Council accredited degree or a degree in a subject with a strong basis in Mathematics
    • Excellent communication, presentation, teamworking and interpersonal skills
    • UK National
    • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK

    Assessment centres will take place at our Head Office in Maidenhead, SL6 4UB.
