    Approximately 1.1km apart, the A19 Testos and Downhill Lane junctions suffer from congestion, especially during peak times. Development of the International Advanced Manufacturing Park, will mean a long term increase in traffic at the Downhill Lane junction so the scheme will make major improvements to ensure these junctions are able to cope with increased vehicle numbers.

    The role of agent is to liaise with the Senior Agent and control the contractors and resources onsite.  You will lead and drive the area of works under your control, in accordance with the Contract Programme, to best commercial advantage, without prejudice to the health and safety of employees, sub-contractors or the public at large and taking into full account environmental considerations.  You will support the training and development of the Site Engineering team.

    What will I be doing?

    • Organise and manage the work for your allocated discipline including management of the relevant subcontractors
    • Deliver the works on time and on budget. Develop programmes and forecast budgets with Senior Agent, derive simple indices to assess actual programme and productivity achieved and prepare reports for weekly and monthly reviews and measures for the QS department. Review contractual agreements and develop design, working methods, programme and forecast costs with the Senior Agent, General Foreman and Subcontractors / Suppliers identifying any inaccuracies or inconsistencies, and feedback any changes made to the QA and QS teams.
    • Be fully conversant with subcontractor’s contract conditions and responsibilities and manage their works and day to day accounts with the commercial team.Requisitioning resources in a timely manner to ensure that they are correctly specified and readily available so as not to impede the construction programme.Reconciliation of planned versus actual resources for compilation of weekly reports and the control and ordering of resources.
    • Complete inspection and test plans, risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works ensuring that all necessary documentation as required by these statements and plans is produced in a timely manner.
    • Communicate to the QA and QS engineer non-conformances and any instructions received from the client / designer / RE’s staff. Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
    • Ensure all delivery tickets are cost coded and passed to accounts dept. for processing within 3 days of arrival on site.
    • Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work related discussions with client / designer / RE / project team.
    • Regularly review with the senior agent the performance, training and development needs of the subordinate staff.
    • Adherence to Costain policies and procedures
    • Manage supervise and mentor section, site and assistant engineers to ensure high levels of engineering control and appropriate records

    About you

    • Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HNC in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
    • Understanding of Engineering Principles
    • Experience of managing drainage contractors and everything required to ensure all drainage gangs are fully utilised throughout.
    • Experience of maintaining Inspection and Test plan records and knowledge of the inputting of as built data into the Highways England HADDMS Database
    • Experience of working on projects with interface with live traffic and the management of work within Traffic management closures
    • Knowledge and experience of interface with Temporary works team on particular with management of groundwater and ground support systems.
