    CHC Highways is a joint venture between Costain and CH2M where they have been entrusted with providing routine and cyclical maintenance work, incident and severe weather response and will be responsible for the maintenace of the depot facilities for Area 14.  The depot facilities are at - Bradbury, Kneeton, Carrville and Alnwick.


    As a Works Supervisor, you will be managing and supervising trunk road maintenance and installation activities - planning, organising and supervising construction works ensuring that they operate efficiently and meet all requirements in relation to cost, productivity, quality, health & safety and the environment

    What will I be doing?

    • Ensure timely execution of works orders and cyclic schemes
    • Check and authorise timesheet submissions from operational staff to ensure correct coding and to monitor hours worked
    • Programme, allocate, manage and record staffing, plant and material resources effectively on a daily basis to suit work
    • Conduct and record ongoing interim physical measurements during works and upon works completion
    • Ensure works orders are effectively managed and evidence of work completed is present and robust
    • Supervise operational staff on a daily basis, assessing competency of individuals carrying out tasks, monitoring performance, monitoring sickness absence, identifying any training needs and conducting inductions for new staff
    • Supervisory responsibility for Health and Safety of the workforce including conducting ‘tool box talks’ and the communication of other health and safety rules and alerts
    • Ensure that all plant and equipment deployed on the Network complies with current health and safety legislative requirements and is fully utilised
    • Reporting all health and safety incidents involving CHC and Supply Chain staff to the Operation Team Managers
    • Ensure compliance with the CHC Environmental Management System with regard to day-to-day operational activities
    • Maintain a common daily diary, logging actions and ensuring an appropriate hand-over occurs between shifts with colleagues
    • Ensure CHC and parent company information, including changes to work procedures, are communicated effectively and made readily available to all of the workforce, via notice boards, team briefings etc.
    • Liaise with Supply Chain Partners and emergency services to effectively handle issues on the network
    • Ensure vehicle and depot security and maintenance, liaising with the Works Manager and the Plant and Transport Manager as required


    About you

    • Previous experience in a similar role
    • SMSTS
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Working night time and weekends and unsociable hours when on call for incidents/winter service
    • Ability to effectively plan, allocate and supervise staffing, plant and material resources
    • Thorough and methodical disposition to monitor individual staff development, planning and arranging training or ‘buddying’ opportunities
    • High speed road network experience
