    We are looking for a Civil/Structural Technical Authority to join the team in our office close to Manchester Airport.

    What will I be doing?

    • Have a safe-by-design ethos, with understanding of SHE, technical and delivery risk at all stages of the project life, ensure mitigation plans are in place, understand process safety
    • Providing technically focused leadership, across the Costain group as required
    • Utilises wide reaching knowledge across tendering, engineering, design, construction, temporary conditions, handover and operations/maintenance of projects
    • Implement best practice approaches from across the industry in both design and construction
    • Support work winning and tendering, develop and be accountable for engineering and construction cost estimates
    • Establishing, implementing and maintaining the technical assurance policy
    • Safeguard the technical integrity of design output through the development, maintenance and application of processes and procedures, ensuring the output is compliant to relevant legislation, best practice, standards and project requirements
    • Identify the optimum engineering and design software solutions to deliver productivity, integration and data integrity
    • Ensure staff are assessed for technical competence and deployed in line with their skills, ensure the skills mix aligns with Costain’s strategic direction
    • Support engineering provision from our partners, subcontractors and consultants
    • Development the skills set of the team through coaching, supporting training and mentoring, act as a Supervising Civil Engineer
    • Perform forensic reviews, verification activities, inspections and audits across Costain as required to confirm compliance for engineering, design and construction works
    • Execute discipline specific studies and assessment
    • Interface with other discipline engineers, teams and delivery partners as part of the combined multi-discipline offering to clients and projects
    • Maintain compliance with corporate policies and procedures

    About you

    • Degree qualified
    • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer
    • Recent UK experience
    • Understanding of a range of sectors, eg water, highways, rail, power, industrial, nuclear
    • Understanding of whole delivery process from work winning to scheme handover in a variety of sectors
    • Ability to communicate effectively, have a flexible outlook, able to deliver presentations
    • Able to travel mainly across the UK and visit project sites / suppliers, at short notice occasionally
    • Able to prioritise work and meet multiple deadlines
