    Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) are delivering the Enabling Works Contract (EWC) programme of works for HS2, across the Southern area, to make way for the main civil and station build contracts. The scope of the EWC South includes demolition, utilities diversions, highways, archaeology, and ecology works over 4-6 years, with an estimated final value in excess of £500m. You will be directly involved in the delivery of the programme of circa 150 individual projects and will help contribute to skills and employment in the local community, leaving a positive legacy.

    What will I be doing?

    As a Systems engineer will contribute to the development and management of technical assurance on assigned work packages using a systems engineering approach for both the CSJV and the supply chain. You will gain the opportunity to work on one of the highest profile and largest infrastructure projects in Europe. They will join a multi-disciplinary project as part of the team responsible for the technical assurance delivery using a systems engineering approach.

     

    You will be responsible for capturing and developing stakeholder requirements at the highest level and ensuring that these requirements are specified, managed and fully assured within the delivery of the HS2 Enabling Works contract. You will support the development of the reviews to confirm the activities are generating the expected outputs and there is suitable and sufficient evidence to support the assurance case for the work.

     

    This role will support the overall progressive assurance activities being provided across the project lifecycle, demonstrating compliance with the requirements, design intent and objectives of the scope of work being delivered by the CSJV through provision of V&V captured evidence to the delivery teams, customer and other stakeholders.

     

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    • Develop Technical Assurance scheme for work packages
    • Undertake the development of requirements and assurance criteria in order to comply with source requirements i.e. external regulations, standards, contract technical as well as meet the work package or project objectives.
    • Engage with the Technical and Delivery teams to define the acceptance criteria for the requirements including design approval, demonstration of capability, acceptance of equipment and operability as appropriate.
    • Develop V&V strategies, procedures and best practice guides;
    • Produce Technical Assurance activity plans;
    • Lead and facilitate the planning of activities that need technical assurance and develop with the work package manager a scheme to ensure requirements can be demonstrated as being satisfied.
    • Capture and identification of V&V activities / requirements for the scope of work being delivered by the CSJV;
    • Demonstrate knowledge of assurance through reviews such as SDR, IDC and IDR with how the evidence is used for V&V;
    • Manage traceability information for V&V and track status throughout the project;
    • Lead technical assurance work streams, reviewing activity plans, activity outputs and checking evidence to ensure that evidence statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible and that they conform to standards;
    • Identify gaps and conflicts for technical assurance of the work package scope of work including the supply chain, and write the plans for improving the technical assurance compliance;
    • Provide training on all areas of technical assurance using a systems engineering approach and ensuring that the TA processes, work flows and templates are followed for project success.

     

    About you

    Qualifications and Experience:

     

    Essential:

    • Qualified with a relevant technical degree;
    • Proven track record of systems engineering, V&V planning, management, control and delivery;
    • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high level information into details, abstract up from low level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs;
    • Facilitation skills, able to talk with individuals and groups in one to one situations or workshops about their needs and ask the right questions to surface essential V&V information:
    • Proven communication skills including:
    • Written – reports, papers, specifications, etc.
    • Verbal – able to communicate clearly, negotiate priorities and to resolve subject matter conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, engineering and management);
    • Demonstrable organisational skills, including the ability to work with the vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to cope with rapidly changing information

    Desirable:

    • Good level knowledge and use of IBM Rational tools, such as RTC, RQM, DOORS;
    • Working knowledge of major multidisciplinary projects associated with Rail;
    • Track record of working with rail stakeholders.

    Person specification:

    • Excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate with customers, engineers and management;
    • Ability to plan and organise your own workload to ensure on time completion;
    • Ability to plan and organise direct reports work;
    • Ability to work with large data sets;
    • Tenacity to obtain information;
    • IT literate with the ability to use and integrate Microsoft Office packages – word, excel;
    • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, attention to detail.
