    The eight₂O Alliance is a grouping of industry leaders working in collaboration to design and deliver essential improvements to Thames Water’s ageing infrastructure. The multi - £billion contract will be delivered by the 8-partner Alliance which includes two design and build Joint Ventures. Costain’s JV will be predominantly delivering projects in the Thames Valley and Thames South Regions. There is a mix of Waste Water Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure, and Water Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure projects across the framework. 

     

    This role is a full-time position supporting Eight2O. The successful candidate will initially be recruited on a 9-month fixed term contract which will be subject to review and may be extended to 12 months.

    What will I be doing?

    The occupational health nurse will work within a multi-disciplinary team, operate within the construction workplace and contribute to the health and wellbeing of Costain, the Client and employees of subcontractors appointed across the framework.

     

    • Providing advice to the framework management team on all aspects of occupational health & wellbeing
    • Working with the client and other JV partners to develop and deliver a clear framework OH strategy and health & wellbeing promotion initiatives.
    • Assessing the work environment for potential occupational health problems
    • Monitoring employee exposure to hazardous substances/environments and undertaking statutory health surveillance and non-statutory health monitoring
    • Reviewing information on health induction paperwork and providing appropriate advice
    • Conducting Fitness for Work assessments for staff undertaking safety critical role
    • Conducting drugs & alcohol testing in line with the Chain of Custody Protocol
    • Undertaking assessments of subcontract partners and advising on the effectiveness of their occupational health services
    • Managing subcontract occupational health service providers
    • Conducting wellbeing clinics/cholesterol checks etc.
    • Undertaking DSE, pregnant ladies and young person’s risk assessments when required
    • Undertaking a triage role with regard to injuries sustained as a result of accidents on site (where appropriate) & administering treatments for minor injuries
    • Advising on disability issues in the workplace
    • Undertaking a role in attendance management.
    • Developing return to work strategies following serious injury or a period of prolonged ill health
    • Maintaining the framework’s health records in line with in line with Data Protection law
    • Keeping up to date with legal and professional changes associated with occupational health practice
    • Maintaining own registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council

     

     

    About you

    The candidate must:

    • have two years' post-registration practice required and a specialist qualification in occupational health nursing practice. Degree preferred
    • be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
    • preferably have experience in a construction or building environment
    • have a confident personality and the interpersonal skills needed to interact with personnel at all levels
    • be able to deliver presentations/Tool Box Talks to the workforce on health & wellbeing issues
    • have excellent organisational skills
    • be computer literate
    • be able to work on own initiative when required.
    • have a flexible attitude towards working hours.
    • hold a full Driving Licence
    • live within a commutable distance of Reading or Hampton, which will be the initial base, and able to travel to other Costain sites as required.
