Costain were appointed by Highways England to deliver two of the three sections of the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme as part of a Joint Venture (JV). The JV will complete two packages totalling circa £600 million of work. The A14 Improvement Scheme is required to enhance the capacity and reliability of the UK strategic road network in order to ensure better journeys for road users.
Stretching over 25 miles, the works will improve this highly congested stretch of road. Initial design work will commence immediately with the development of detailed plans for the delivery phase, which commenced late 2016. The road will be open to traffic in 2020, with the works in Huntingdon town being completed after.
We are looking for a Materials Co-ordinator to join the A14, you will be working in conjunction with the Section 3 delivery team, the Material Co-Ordinator’s primary function is to ensure that the principal materials ordered for the project are in compliance with the A14 procurement process. The Material Co-Ordinator will be responsible for maintaining an accurate and timely record of bulk materials delivered to site as well as supporting the commercial and/or accounting teams in the collection of materials cost data on a routine basis to feed into the weekly and monthly management reports.
The Material Co-Ordinator must familiarise themselves with this system to ensure that all the relevant particulars of the material being ‘called off’ are present in the final requisition form to enable effective procurement and delivery to the project.
Liaise with the A14 Section Buyer to ensure that the approved material orders are communicated with the relevant suppliers and that the agreed deliveries are correctly scheduled on ‘Data Scope’ (A14 management tool).
Assist the A14 Section Buyer to procure the item(s) through the A14 preferred or existing suppliers listing. The materials Co-Ordinator must ensure that all the suppliers receive and official order by email detailing all materials required, delivery address, site contacts including specification(s) and if appropriate site specific delivery instructions.
Inform the material requisition owner of the status of the order by an email attaching a ‘Call Off’ or purchase order with confirmation of the expected delivery date.
Close co-ordination with the relevant Works Manager is essential to ensure that the materials can be safely delivered to the project. In addition, the Materials Co-Ordinator must maintain effective communication between the supplier and the site team at all times to enhance the timeliness and efficiency of the expected deliveries.
Ensure that the checked/signed delivery tickets for bulk materials are collected and passed to the stores and record any issues (i.e. shortfalls, damages, etc.).
Check the delivery ticket(s) against the original order and any issues or queries will be raised in the first instance with the supplier.
Work closely with the bulk materials suppliers to maintain accurate records of materials ordered and delivered to the project on a daily basis.
Maintain daily reconciliation of bulk materials on common registers linked to material reconciliation process and assist the procurement and finance team in resolving any supply of material related queries.
