    Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) are delivering the Enabling Works Contract (EWC) programme of works for HS2, across the Southern area, to make way for the main civil and station build contracts. The scope of the EWC South includes demolition, utilities diversions, highways, archaeology, and ecology works over 4-6 years, with an estimated final value in excess of £500m. You will be directly involved in the delivery of the programme of circa 150 individual projects and will help contribute to skills and employment in the local community, leaving a positive legacy.

    What will I be doing?

    We are looking for a Waste & Resources Manager to work on our HS2 Enabling works contract. The role is part of the Environment and Sustainability Team which is responsible for the delivery of project wide advice and support for specific works packages in the North Acton/Willesden junction to West Ruislip area. This role will be embedded within the project teams delivering the works packages and will report to the Sector Environment Manager and the Waste & Resources Manager for Euston Station.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • To assist CSjv in its aspiration to select sustainable and non-hazardous materials and minimise the production of waste.
    • To interpret, assess and advise the CSjv Environment Team on the implications of existing, new and forthcoming legislation, standards and guidance.
    • To provide technical advice and support on materials and waste to the project teams.
    • Assist in the development and delivery of materials and waste training for all project staff.
    • Assure materials and waste processes, procedures and forms in line with existing, new and forthcoming policy, legislation, standards and guidance.
    • Advise on, produce, approve, and assure Materials Management Plans, Sampling Plans, Resource Management Plans and Site Waste Management Plans.
    • Interpret and assure materials and waste characterisation analysis reports.
    • Undertake and/or assist Sector Environment Manager in establishing, managing and maintaining relationships with the supply chain and external stakeholders such as local authorities, EA, and others as required and directed.
    • Assist in ensuring that Waste Management requirements are fully embedded in the project construction delivery i.e. HS2 Code of Construction Practice, Environmental Minimum Requirement s and HS2 Hybrid Bill.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of Area South Site Waste Management Plan, Resource Management Plans, Sustainable Procurement Plan and coordination of reviews as and when required.
    • Assist in the Implementation of Sector Waste Audit’s Schedule.
    • Responsible for undertaking and/or assisting with the monitoring, analysis of and reporting of Waste performance. Utilise data to highlight areas of further consideration, evaluation and intervention.
    • Assist and/or manage the investigation of waste incidents, near misses as directed.
    • Promote the CSJV and HS2 Environmental messages in addition to the implementation of best practice principles including promoting any supply chain solutions.
    • Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relations to Environmental Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership.

    About you

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Environmental qualification – minimum bachelor degree
    • Chartered Waste Manager (MCIWM)
    • Experience of waste management on large, complex or very high profile infrastructure/engineering projects
    • Solid Track record in delivering robust reports and information for major projects
    • CL:AIRE Code of Practice Qualified Person
