Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) are delivering the Enabling Works Contract (EWC) programme of works for HS2, across the Southern area, to make way for the main civil and station build contracts. The scope of the EWC South includes demolition, utilities diversions, highways, archaeology, and ecology works over 4-6 years, with an estimated final value in excess of £500m. You will be directly involved in the delivery of the programme of circa 150 individual projects and will help contribute to skills and employment in the local community, leaving a positive legacy.

What will I be doing?

This is a new appointment into the Costain/Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) Occupational Health & Wellbeing department. We see this role enhancing the current structure to assist us in designing out health risk within the EWC project and to enhance employee health throughout the programme, ultimately upskilling the project management teams. 


The role is substantively based at the London Euston office however the role will support the entire project and there will be travel to other locations within the UK for meetings, site visits as required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the occupational health manager and project management teams with identifying and controlling upcoming and current project health risks.
  • Create and deploy an upskilling programme for basic occupational hygiene skills across the project, and H&S function
  • Develop procedures and practices in the management of occupational health risks across the entire project and site bases.
  • Provide the tactical resource to measure and quantify areas of high health risk (including on site monitoring). To assist the project management team within the development of HHEMP Health Hazard Evaluation and Mitigation Plans and review.
  • Demonstrable record of influencing people and brining about change on projects that relate to health improvement and health outcomes 

About you


  • Broad occupational hygienist experience, some of which must be within the construction industry
  • Experience in demolition projects is preferential.
  • Recognized Occupational Hygiene qualification
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team are a significant requirement for the role
  • Must have had experience of working on complex construction projects with a range of subcontractors with multisite/project environment
  • Audit experience and audit qualifications are preferred.
  • You will need to be computer confident to use the OH software and basic Microsoft Office packages to do the day job.
  • It is important you are a confident communicator across all levels including presenting and creation of reports to the business – as the role will require you to liaise with multiple internal & external stakeholders
