Costain Integrated Technology Solutions provide integrated hardware and software based solutions across a broad spectrum of traffic monitoring and management requirements. 


We are looking for a Software Configuration Management (SCM) Engineer with previous commercial experience to join the Software Team to support and manage the build systems associated with a wide variety of software products that range from web applications written in Java to embedded systems written in C/C++.

What will I be doing?

  • Work closely with the Software development and Test teams on projects to design, develop, implement and support high-quality software build systems for continuous integration and automated deployment, where applicable.
  • Provide estimates and manage schedule for on time delivery.
  • Work closely with the Service Operations team to ensure the appropriate tools are installed on the infrastructure and available for projects.
  • Stay abreast of the latest build technologies and manage the introduction of new techniques and technologies.
  • Advocate continuous improvement through effective retrospectives, recommendations and driving change.
  • Possess excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines.

About you

  • Solid experience of source code management tool e.g. GIT; continuous integration tool e.g. Jenkins; other tools & technologies such as: Jira, Maven, Artifactory
  • Static analysis and dynamic analysis tools (C++ and Java)
  • OS - Linux, Embedded Linux, Windows
  • Good experience with common scripting languages including Bash/Shell, Python,
  • A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and software development methodologies

In addition to the technical skills, the candidate must also have the following:

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Good analytical skills for trouble shooting and problem solving
  • Positive, strong and robust work ethic, taking pride in professionalism, responsibility and highly proactive approach to work
  • Effective teamworking skills


Other desirable technical skills:

  • Database (SQL and no-SQL)
  • Cloud (e.g. Azure, OpenStack)
  • Infrastructure automation (e.g. Ansible)
  • Deployment automation (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Container concepts (e.g. Docker)
  • Establishing DevOps processes and toolchain
  • Confluence
  • Security concepts
