About Costain and your project.

Costain have been contracted for the design and build of a facility near Reading.  The scope of works for this project will include Programme Management, Construction, Building Services (M&E), Instrumentation and Control Systems and various external works.

 

Potential candidates for this role must be able to obtain and retain Security Clearance to be able to be considered.

 

We are looking to add Site Engineers to our team who will support lead, innovative and motivate the integrated team including supply chain to ensure that the programme is delivered to time, quality and cost.

 

This site based role is to take responsibility for the delivery of the internal and external works including external areas, cladding, internal fit out and building engineering building services within a newly constructed building shell.

What will I be doing?

  • Ensure the project is delivered safely, within Budget, on programme and to the required Quality
  • Ownership of the packages and disciplines Safety and Environmental performance
  • Manage the Safety and Environmental within the Construction Area.
  • Undertake Principal Contractors duties and responsibilities
  • Undertake weekly / monthly SHE reviews with all suppliers and specialists
  • Assist in readiness for the Costain Scored Inspection monthly reviews
  • Deliver start of shift regular tool box talk briefings to the site team covering appropriate Health, Safety and Environmental issues and ensure records of the briefings are maintained
  • Plan and assist Project Management team in determining best avenue of works, advising on specialist’s strengths and concerns
  • Be fully conversant with specialists’ contract conditions and attendances
  • Review programme on a daily basis and assist in identifying opportunities
  • Record resources and monitor outputs against programme
  • Coordinate a range of service providers within a defined area
  • Integrate with the Clients delivery team
  • Review on a daily basis outputs achieved and report to the Works and Superintendent team
  • Ensure a quality product is delivered
  • Ensure only adequately trained and experienced operatives are engaged on site to deliver the works

About you

  • SMSTS / SSSTS accreditation and/or membership of an appropriate professional institute as an incorporated engineer with equivalent academic or vocational certification.
  • Practical construction site experience
  • Needs an excellent understanding of HSAWA, CDM, risk assessments, safety systems, safety cases and SSoW.
  • Relevant experience of managing and working with contractors.
  • Must be able to articulate technical complexities and have very good communication skills.

  • Able to chair meetings and direct the work to meet the programme.

  • Able to engage within the project teams to influence project outcome across a number of interlinking projects.
